Big Foot. He's elusive in the big woods of Washington State and we'd like to keep him out of Huntington Woods, as well. A house need not be big to be beautiful, functional and comfortable.

Huntington Woods is an older city with an aging infrastructure. The sanitary and storm sewers are maxing out, flooding backyards and basements and when I say flooding I mean both kinds of sewers flood. Yeah, it's gross. Building bigger footprints hinders drainage. Fortunately, our city planners are on top of this and there are strict mathematical computations that must be followed in order to have your house plans approved.

So, to the person who posted this note. Rest easy. Big Foot isn't welcome here.

Now, if you want to talk about design.....that's another entry.

House Envy

Yeah, we've all got it to some degree. I've got it bad at times. Don't get me wrong. I have a terrific home, but I could use a butler's pantry and more sunlight, a bigger yard and a deeper basement. Last week I stopped in at an estate sale on Lincoln, not to shop, but to snoop. It was a house that I had envied. It was close to being a top ten house. Architecturally, this house has curb appeal. It's interesting and has nice lines, good location too. Inside, it was a dump. The kitchen was tiny and outdated. The bedrooms were tiny and had small closets. It was dark and the hallways were tight. It was so good to drive home empty handed, walk through my french doors, sit down at my generous island and look out at my blossoming garden.

Commitment

Tonight's conversation...."This is our third house in Huntington Woods. The guys 2 doors down used to live across the street from us, but they moved and we moved and then we moved again."
"Oh, yeah! I know them. They have a little dog."
"Our bathroom was so small my dad couldn't use the toilet. We had to move."
This is what makes our community so unique. It's not unusual when families move just around the corner or down the street. Sheryl Wolberg has lived in five different Huntington Woods homes and I am sure there are others who have similar records. Not many communities have that kind of commitment.

The Good The Bad The Hideous

People in this neighborhood love to look inside lit windows at night. We love to see plans and watch changes. We love this one and hate that one. Oh and there's the one that I can't walk past without using the word hideous. So, this is my blog. One house, one renovation, one foreclosure at a time. The good, the bad and the hideous.
